Director, Lunar Ventures
Gary M. Cadenhead, Ph.D.

Dr. Gary CadenhaedGary M. Cadenhead, Ph.D. directed the world renowned MOOT CORP® Program from 1992 through 2005 and has a lifelong involvement in entrepreneurial activities. He has started and managed his own ventures, consulted new ventures, served on the boards of new businesses, and assisted minority-owned businesses. Currently, he serves on the boards of several start-up ventures, including Halsa Pharmaceuticals, Signal One, and EADevices. During 2004, he served as Chairman of the Board of Schlotzsky's Inc. He is on the advisory board of The Journal of Private Equity. He is president of the MOOT CORP Foundation and Director of the MOOT CORP Pontoon Fund.

Dr. Cadenhead was a Senior Lecturer in Entrepreneurship and Associate Director of the Kelleher Center for Entrepreneurship in the McCombs School of Business at The University of Texas at Austin. He graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Southern Methodist University, earned an M.B.A. from Harvard University, and received his Ph.D. from Stanford University. Dr. Cadenhead taught MBA courses in entrepreneurship including the courses that prepared UT MBAs for the MOOT CORP Competition. His articles have appeared in various professional journals, including Journal of Accounting Research, Accounting Review, Abacus, Design Management Journal, and The Journal of Private Equity. He recently completed No Longer MOOT: The Premier New Venture Competition From Idea to Global Impact.

Prior to joining The University of Texas, Dr. Cadenhead held faculty positions at Stanford University, UCLA, and the University of California at Santa Barbara. He also served as Chief Financial Officer of the Center for the Study of Democratic Institutions. He is an experienced consultant and expert witness. During 1988, he served as research director for the Texas Strategic Economic Policy Commission, which developed a strategic plan for the State of Texas. He has been selected thrice by MBA students to receive the Outstanding Graduate Business Professor Award. In 1995, the Kauffman Foundation and the Entrepreneur of the Year Institute recognized him as one of the Top Ten Entrepreneurship Educators of the Year. In 1998, Dr. Cadenhead and the MOOT CORP® Program were featured in Inc. Magazine. In 1999, he received the Entrepreneurship Education Pedagogy Innovation of the Year Award from USASBE. In 2003, he was recognized in Entrepreneur magazine by his fellow entrepreneurship program directors as one of the top three directors in the United States. In 2004 and 2005, he assisted the Texas Lottery Commission and the Kansas Bioscience Authority in writing business plans for their organizations.
